May 09--Knoxville Harley-Davidson will begin building what will be the third-largest concert venue in Knox County in the next few weeks. The new venue will be connected with the Knoxville Harley-Davidson dealership at 605 Lovell Road, and will accommodate 4,000 patrons and will feature a $1 million dollar stage. Only Thompson-Boling Arena and the Knoxville Civic Coliseum have larger capacities.
Thane Johnson, marketing director for Knoxville Harley-Davidson, said the stage will be built to the specifications of artists who currently charge between $60,000 and $100,000 to perform. The venue will be operated in conjunction with Copper Moon Entertainment Group. Johnson said a "test show" by a lower-tier artist was being planned for July and agreements for larger acts were in the works.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lovell Road site with Knox County mayor Tim Burchett in attendence.
