May 8, 2014

May 08--This weekend, Memorial Auditorium will play host to the only Chinese acrobatic company touring the United States.

Burlington Civic Music is bringing the Golden Dragon Acrobats to town Sunday with a 3:30 p.m. performance.

The troupe represents a tradition that is more than 25 centuries old.

Burlington Civic Music described the group as offering countless thrills.

The group will juggle everything from umbrellas to balls, and their props range from ladders to giant spinning wheels.

The acrobatic group was established in 1967 by Lien Chi Chang.

He since has stepped down and taken a job at the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts, but the performance still is produced by the same family.

Golden Dragons made their U.S. debut in 1985 and made their first Broadway appearance in November 2005.

For tickets, all residents within a 25-mile perimeter of Burlington must purchase or have season tickets, priced at $80 for adults, $20 for students and $90 for reserved seats.

All those outside the 25-mile perimeter can buy one-time tickets for $25.

This show wraps up the Burlington Civic Music season.
