May 7, 2014

GUELMA (Algeria)- Five "significant" actions to protect and rehabilitate the archaeological sites of Guelma will be undertaken "very soon" for a budget of DZD765 million, said Monday the province's Culture Director Samir Thaalibi.

More than the half of this budget, i.e. DZD490 million, will be devoted to study and build a regional archaeological museum to preserve valuables and old coins belonging to this regions' various civilizations, said the official.

Underlining that the procedures relating to the working out of specifications and launch of invitations to tender are "being finalized," Thaalibi said that this museum will adjoin Mujaheed museum and the stele erected in memory of the Revolutions' martyrs.

The museum will comprise two permanent exhibition rooms, a library, research offices and a workshop.

The second important operation will focus on the rehabilitation of Guelma's old theatre.
