WASHINGTON, May 5 -- Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Pa. (9th CD), issued the following news release:
On Monday, U.S. Representative Bill Shuster (R-Hollidaysburg) announced that the Alum Bank Community Fire Company has been awarded a Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) in the amount of $22,800. The funds will be used for the purchase of new fittings to convert fire hydrants to the more standard Storz fitting. In addition, the grant will allow for new training and the purchase of two hydrant valves and two large diameter hose manifolds for water distribution.
"This is wonderful news for the first responders of the Alum Bank Community Fire Company, as well as everyone in the local area," said Rep. Shuster. "With this new grant the fire company can acquire much-needed new supplies, which will allow them to continue providing the best possible protection for the surrounding community."
"The officers and members of the Alum Bank Fire Company are extremely pleased with the announcement of this grant award," added Alum Bank Community Fire Company Assistant Chief Kelly Davis. "This will give our company as well as our mutual aid companies the ability to hook into the hydrant system quickly and easily. We are very grateful for all the support Congressman Shuster and his staff members have provided with this grant award, as well as all of their previous support for the Alum Bank Fire Company."
The Alum Bank Community Fire Company is comprised entirely of volunteers, with 29 members providing coverage for an area of approximately 150 square miles of rural Bedford County. In addition, the fire company provides automatic mutual aid for six other departments spanning three counties and 30,809 Pennsylvania residents.
