Lujan Announces Winner of 2014 Congressional Art Competition

SANTA FE, N.M., May 5 -- Rep. Ben Ray Lujan, D-N.M. (3rd CD), issued the following news release:

Congressman Ben Ray Lujan of New Mexico'sThird District announced at a reception at the City of Santa Fe Arts Commission Community Gallery on Saturday May 4th that Davin Nez of Tohatchi High School is this year's winner of the Congressional Art Competition.

"Just as in year's past, the submissions for the 2014 Congressional Art Competition showcased the tremendous talent of New Mexico's young artists. These students have shown great potential and are continuing a proud tradition of artistic excellence that is a hallmark of New Mexico. I want to thank all the contestants for sharing their work and I hope that they will continue to develop their skills," Congressman Lujan said. "I would like to congratulate Davin Nez for winning this prestigious honor and I look forward to welcoming him to Washington, D.C. as we honor all of the nation's winners. Davin's artwork will be displayed in our nation's Capitol, where visitors from across the country can view it. In addition, the other top pieces will hang in my district offices across Northern New Mexico for all our neighbors, friends, and family to see."

Davin won for his entry "Tribute to the Elders: Navajo Woman"

The top 6 pieces of artwork were recognized out of a field of 56 entries. The winning entry from each Congressional district will be displayed as part of an exhibit in the United States Capitol for one year. Those works of art placing second through 6 will be displayed in Lujan's district offices across Northern New Mexico.
