Artist's view of the region on show

ARTIST Gillie Cawthorne has unveiled an exhibition of her work.

The Lie of the Land is on show at Trevelyan College, Durham University, in Elvet Hill Road, in Durham City, until June 6.

Specialising in soft pastel and watercolour, Durhamborn Ms Cawthorne takes her inspiration from the varied landscape, historic buildings and vibrant life of the North of England and Scotland.

Her work can be seen locally in several Durham University colleges, the Bill Bryson Library and Palatine Centre, the University Hospital of North Durham and Bishop's Mill bar.

She has exhibited in New Yo rk and had many solo exhibitions in the region.

Miss Cawthorne said: "Minute by minute, the face of the landscape changes, from wild to wonderful, as jostling sunlight and cloud pass by.

"The Lie of the Land is a series of paintings reflecting those times when I have been captivated by the view."
