Foster returns to St. Petersburg law firm

May 05--ST. PETERSBURG -- Five months after joining a Vero Beach law firm, former St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster has rejoined his old firm in St. Petersburg.

Foster, who lost to Mayor Rick Kriseman in November after one term, joined Graves Injury Law Group in January to work for childhood friend Joseph Graves practicing estate planning, real estate and commercial litigation.

But Foster said a health scare has led Graves to postpone plans to expand the firm into the Tampa Bay area, which was a major reason for him joining the company. He also did not enjoy the roughly 160-mile commute he was making twice a week so he could spend weekends at his Shore Acres home.

He decided to go back to Foster and Foster, the law firm on Fourth Street North that he ran with his father for 20 years.

"As I look at it, the Lord sent me to Vero for a reason," Foster said. "It was a great place to decompress after a long campaign, but the lure of St. Petersburg is drawing me back."

Foster said he has no plans to run for office and plans to concentrate on personal injury and probate law.

"There's just not a calling to go back," he said. "I served at the will of the people and that season has passed and I'm looking forward to other opportunities the Lord gives me."
