Capella University (http://www.capella.edu) is a regionally accredited online university* that offers online degree programs designed to help working adults advance in their careers.

ďWeíve designed the minors to provide a well-rounded, foundational education in data as well as a Ďdeep diveí into the specific skill areas of the chosen minor,Ē said Sue Talley, EdD, dean of technology for Capellaís School of Business and Technology. ďCapellaís minors also feature an interactive, collaborative learning environment that blends theory with practical application, including sophisticated software tools they can access from their desktop.Ē

New minors address growing need for analytical talent

McKinsey Global Institute projects that demand for analytical talent could be 60 percent greater than the supply in the coming years. To help meet this demand, Capella now offers three bachelorís-level minors that combine analytics with key competencies such as business acumen and foundational IT skills.

  • The Business Intelligence minor develops the knowledge to locate, collect, conform, analyze, and effectively present key information that will support the development of operational, tactical, and strategic solutions. Students build the skills and knowledge required to leverage their organizationsí data assets and warehouses and learn to articulate the story in the data. Capellaís Business Intelligence minoróalong with relevant work experienceóalso helps students prepare for the Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP) exams.
  • The Data Analytics minor addresses data analytics process and workflow concepts and activities, with a specific focus on data identification and collection, data cleansing, data conforming, and quality measurement. Students in the Data Analytics minor are able to access SAS tools as part of their program and also have free access to SASģ Self-Paced e-Learning courses, which can save thousands in preparation for the SASģ Certified Base Programmer professional certification.
  • The Data Management minor focuses on data governance, architecture, design, and integration, as well as other skills needed to organize and store data so it can be efficiently found and effectively communicated. It was developed in conjunction with the experts who helped create the Data Management Association International (DAMA) Guide to the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBOK) and provides the foundational knowledge required for the Certified Data Management Professional (CMDP) certification offered by DAMA.

In addition to these new bachelorís-level offerings, Capella provides opportunities to specialize in Business Intelligence while earning a post-bachelorís certificate (http://bit.ly/CapellaCertificateBusIntelligence), Master of Business Administration (MBA)(http://bit.ly/CapellaMBABusinessIntelligence) or Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) (http://bit.ly/CapellaDBA).
