May 04--Before the U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open descend on Pinehurst next month, get a taste of golf through art.

The Artists League of the Sandhills presents "Open the Opens," an exhibit featuring -- you guessed it -- golf-related artwork. More than 50 pieces created by the league's full members will be on display through May 27. They come in all mediums, including acrylics, watercolors and mixed media, and all sizes. "It's kind of a cute change," said Pam Griner, the league's office manager.

Many of the works depict area golf courses, so you can expect several Pinehurst No. 2 images in the mix. The exhibit opens Sunday, May 4 with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. There will be wine and snacks, plus a putting green set up in the building. The works will be for sale.

The details: The art will be on display at Exchange Street Gallery of Fine Art, 129 Exchange St., in the former Aberdeen Rockfish Railroad storage terminal. Admission is free. For gallery hours and information, go to artistleague.org or call 944-3979.
