May 31--ELKHART -- The Elkhart Jazz Festival has released a slick new smartphone app modeled after the ones used at some of the largest music festivals around the country.

The free app allows users to learn more about the artists performing at the festival, navigate a map of the music venues, buy concert tickets and share photos on Facebook and Twitter. This year's festival in downtown Elkhart is June 20 through June 22 with more than two dozen acts, including headliners Aaron Neville, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Fourplay.

"One of the things that we wanted to do this year is make our digital information accessible and comparable to other festivals that are large in size because we feel like this is a wonderful festival and large festival for our area," said Ranee Robinson, jazz festival volunteer coordinator. "We're just keeping up with the times and keeping information at your fingertips."

The Elkhart Jazz Festival's app is similar to the apps used at the Kentucky Derby, Bonnaroo Music Festival, South by Southwest and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

Jazz festival organizers launched the event's app for the first time last year and updated it with new features, including a city guide that lists other activities going on in the city during the jazz festival. Users can also see an interactive concert calendar and customize their own schedule with just the artists they are interested in hearing.

The app is available for download for Android and Apple products.
