The Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation will announce its Historic Preservation Award winners for 2014 on Wednesday, June 11 at 3 p.m. in the lower lobby of the State House. Governor Nikki R. Haley will present the awards. Sponsored by the Palmetto Trust, the S.C. Department of Archives and History and the Office of the Governor, the awards recognize exceptional accomplishments in the preservation, rehabilitation and interpretation of South Carolina's architectural and cultural heritage.
The Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting the irreplaceable architectural heritage of South Carolina through advocacy, education and networking. The Horry County Board of Architectural Review will win a 2014 Preservation Service Award for the Horry County Historic Preservation Plan, adopted by Horry County CouncilJune 18, 2013, and made part of the Horry County Comprehensive Plan. This program marks the first time Horry County has set forth the framework for preservation activities in a stand-alone comprehensive manner. In addition to the future preservation activities, the Plan also details the past of Horry County and its development into one of the most heavily visited tourist areas in the country.
