May 29--Thursday nights in Cupertino this summer are going to have their own unique sound.
The city's Summer Concert Series begins June 5 at the Memorial Park Amphitheater, near 21251 Stevens Creek Blvd. A concert will follow each Thursday through July 10.
Residents are encouraged to bring picnic snacks and blankets to each evening concert. All concerts with the exception of a special July 4 event are from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The June 5 concert will feature the Cupertino Symphonic Band, featuring music from musicals and movies, classical, big band and more. The band is made up of residents from Cupertino and the Silicon Valley.
June 12 will see a performance by Daze on the Green, a semifinalist in 98.5 KFOX's Last Band Standing competition in 2010, according to the city of Cupertino.
Daze on the Green specializes in the familiar classic rock sounds of Journey, Foreigner, the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac.
PatrÓn Latin Rhythms will perform June 19 playing the songs of Santana, Malo, Pete Escovedo and Poncho Sanchez, along with other award-winning Latin artists. June 26 will see Retro Rockets play classic rock 'n' roll from the mid-1960s through the mid-1970s.
Steely Dan and Chicago tribute band Steel 'n' Chicago will play July 3. A special July 4 concert from 10:30 a.m. to noon will be held in conjunction with the city's Independence Day events at Memorial Park. The concert will feature OTR and its style of rock 'n' roll and R&B music.
The concert series will conclude July 10 with Steel Horse and the music of Bon Jovi.
