This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; proposals are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. The Government anticipates awarding a firm fixed price Purchase Order to Aerogel Technologies to perform research necessary to fabricate one gold nanoparticle-impregnated aerogel monolith, perform research necessary to fabricate and compare monoliths using different sources of gold nanoparticles, perform material characterizations and fabricate ten gold nanoparticle-impregnated aerogel monolith. Aerogel Technologies is uniquely qualified to fabricate and compare monolith using different sources of gold nanoparticles using alternate suppliers for gold nanoparticles and has the ability to run a test batch production for one or both of the new sources in order to produce a cylinder for testing. Aerogel Technologies is the only company that can perform the material characterizations to discern spatial distribution of particulate components within the aerogel matrix with X-ray photoelectron microscopy and elemental composition analysis, including X-ray diffraction and Aerogel analysis. Also, Aerogel Technologies has the unique capability to fabricate gold nanoparticle-impregnated aerogel monolith with the attributes of Silica material, particle density, hydrophobic treatment, cylinder form, with no macroscopically observable defects such as bubbles, cracking or inclusions.
