Mother's Day at the Harkin Store
Where: The Harkin Store, rural New Ulm.
When: 1-4 p.m.May 11.
What: Celebrate Mother's Day with us with a look at the life of 19th-century mothers who found time for creativity among the endless chores. Aprons, including some made by Harkin granddaughter Janet Massopust, will be displayed.
How far: About 100 miles, two hours.

What: SpringCon, sponsored by the Midwest Comic Book Association, is the highlight of the year for comic book and graphic novel fans in the Upper Midwest. Fans can meet their favorite writers and artists (many of whom work in the Midwest), cosplay their favorite characters, see panel discussions, get autographs and buy, sell and trade comic books and collectibles.

What: A mecca for fiber artists, a celebration of animals for the kids and a big dose of Midwestern flavor for everyone, Shepherd's Harvest is family fun. Bring the kids to watch sheep shearing demonstrations, sheepdogs at work and handspinners plying their age-old craft on spinning wheels both antique and modern. Hobbyists will find some of the best handpainted, hand-dyed and still-in-the-fleece wool, llama and alpaca yarns, plus pottery and more.
