Tokyo stocks open higher on gains on Wall St.

Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday as market sentiment was buoyed by overnight gains on Wall Street on optimism about the U.S. economic recovery.

In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 43.84 points, or 0.30 percent, from Thursday to 14,725.56. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 3.20 points, or 0.27 percent, to 1,203.88.

Major gainers included automaker, insurance and communications issues.
