The poultry giant entered the food fight for Hillshire Brands, offering $6.8 billion, or $50 a share, topping a $6.4 billion, $45-a-share bid from Pilgrim's Foods for the maker of Jimmy Dean and Ball Park.

The operator of websites and blogs targeting the media industry agreed to sell its editorial and e-commerce assets for $8 million to PGM-MB, a wholly owned unit of Prometheus Global Media.
