May 28--An experienced art curator will take the helm of the Lyndon House Arts Center starting Monday.

Didi Dunphy has been selected as the replacement for longtime Lyndon House supervisor Claire Benson, who retired in March. Dunphy currently directs the galleries at Hotel Indigo and The Classic Center, both located in downtown Athens.

Dunphy said she was excited by the opportunity and noted the amount of work she felt the Lyndon House needed.

"I think the Lyndon House should be the anchor for all arts and cultural activities for our city," Dunphy said. "I'd like to breath life into it."

In a follow-up email, Dunphy elaborated that she "will work towards further establishing (the Lyndon House) through excellent programming, quality education and community outreach and partnerships. I want to bring life and engagement, contemporary thinking and excitement as the Lyndon House enters its next decade."

Dunphy said she will continue her work at The Classic Center and Hotel Indigo.

"Everyone agreed that it is not a conflict. I think it's a good partnership anyway," Dunphy said. "I believe there are potential and wonderful partnerships with these facilities that the Lyndon House would benefit from."
