May 29--DURHAM -- The Pinhook will host "Play it SAFE," a benefit concert to raise money for the Durham Crisis Response Center, Friday beginning at 8 p.m. Local bands Gross Ghost, See Gulls, and T0W3RS will perform.

College radio stations WKNC 88.1 FM (N.C. State University), WXDU 88.7 FM (Duke University), WUAG 103.1 FM (UNC Greensboro), and WXYC 89.3 FM (UNC Chapel Hill) are sponsoring the event, with help from The Pinhook. Organizers want to promote a safe community for women and to raise awareness of the problem of sexual assault.

"The hope by doing this is to make a policy that women in this community can feel safe," organizers stated in a release. "By attending this event, the audience member is advocating gender equality and allegiance against assault, sexual assault, and victim blaming."

The Durham Crisis Response Center provides advocacy, shelter and support services to victims of domestic and sexual violence. All proceeds from "Play it SAFE" will benefit the center.

The event also serves to kick off TWIST, a weekly soul dance party, to be held from midnight until 2 a.m. every Friday night at The Pinhook. TWIST will begin after the show is over.

Tickets are available at the door. Suggested cover is a donation of $5 to $20. The event is for adults 18 and older. Doors will open at 8 p.m. with music at 9 p.m. More information is available at ThePinhook.com, or call 919-667-1100. The Pinhook is at 117 W. Main St.
