Transit Wireless Completes Equipment Upgrade in Subway Stations in Chelsea

Wireless Service for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless as well as Wi-Fi Now Available

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Transit Wireless today announced that it has completed an important equipment upgrade in its initial test subway stations in Chelsea, including 14th St – 8th Ave., 14th St. – 6th Ave. and 8th Ave – 23rdSt. Wireless equipment in the stations have been up and running since September 2011 as part of the initial test phase of the project and were upgraded to incorporate the latest wireless technologies that increase coverage, speed, capacity and reliability. 3G and 4G LTE wireless service for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless customers as well as Wi-Fi is now available to riders in these stations.

“We have drastically improved the technology that brings wireless service to New York City subway stations since bringing the initial stations in Chelsea online almost three years ago,” said William A. We know riders have come to rely on this service and apologize for any inconvenience people experienced during the upgrade process.”

Transit Wireless is currently working with the wireless carriers to expand service to several subway stations in mid-town Manhattan and bring them completely online by June 1, 2014. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless have been configuring and rigorously testing each station to bring them to peak performance. The latest stations include:

  • 34thSt. Herald Square – B, D, F, M, Q, N, R lines
  • 42ndSt. Bryant Park – 7, B, D, F, M lines
  • Grand Central - 42nd St – 4, 5, 6, 7, S lines
  • 23rd St. – 6 line
  • 28th St. – 6 line
  • 33rd St. – 6 line
  • 23rd St. – F, M lines

    The borough of Queens will have 29 additional underground stations completed by the end of the summer.
