May 27--Las Vegas Academy of the Arts will receive its 11th Grammy award Wednesday, the most of any school nationally.

Since 1988, the Grammy Foundation has honored top recording artists, but also recognizes the best music programs at public high schools across the country. This year, Las Vegas Academy was named one of the 12 Grammy award-winning schools.

The performing arts magnet schools achieved the Grammy Signature Schools Gold award, which is bestowed on just two top-performing high school music programs nationally. The academy will receive $5,000, courtesy in part of the Ford Motor Company Fund.

To celebrate the students, and school's accomplishments, the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts will host a special band concert tonight for Grammy representatives, Clark County School District leaders and the public. Interested residents may purchase $8 tickets to attend the concert, which will take place at 6 p.m. at the school's Lowden Theater.

Las Vegas Academy's Grammy is the latest musical award for the School District.

Earlier this year, Green Valley High School was selected as one of 10 high schools nationally to perform next month on the main stage at the annual Thespian Festival. Students from the Henderson high school will travel in late June to Lincoln, Neb., to perform their production of "Mary Poppins." Green Valley students also will perform "Mary Poppins" this week at the Smith Center, the first high school theater group to perform at the performing arts venue in Las Vegas.

CORRECTION: This version clarifies that the date of the concert is Wedneday, May 28. -- (May 27, 2014)
