May 25--The Tioga Point Museum in Athens plans to hold a self-guided tour of Valley gardens next month as a fundraiser.
Tickets are on sale now for the garden tour, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, according to information from the museum's board of directors.
The tour will feature 10 private local gardens, each of which organizers say vary in size, style and personality.
In one garden, Penn State Master Gardener Nancy Menio will show native plants that attract butterflies, beneficial insects and other wildlife, organizers said. An English cottage garden on the tour features a variety of plants, vegetables and herbs, a fish pond and several fountains.
Featured gardens on the tour will also include a variety of trees, colorful displays and inspiring layouts and surprises, organizers said.
A reception with refreshments on the museum's South Main Street grounds will follow the self-guided tour. Harpist Theodore Davenport will provide music.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the museum, by calling (570) 888-7225 or by emailing email@example.com.
Tickets are also available at several area businesses, including Mad Hatter's Cafe and the Spalding Memorial Library in Athens; Jayne's Flowers and Gifts, the Valley Flower Shoppe and Shadowbox Treasures in Waverly; Friendship Star Quilt Shop, Sayre 'n Dipity, Plants 'n Things and Sayre Floral in Sayre; Chamberlain Acres, Charlie's Cafe and Flowers by Christopher's in Elmira; Coppertree Gift Shop in Troy; Agway, East of the Sun West of the Moon and Ye Olde Country Florist in Owego; and Baskets, Blooms and Beyond in Towanda.
