PEORIA, Ill., May 23 -- Rep. Aaron Schock, R-Ill. (18th CD), issued the following news release:
Rep. Aaron Schock (IL-18) is kicking off his Summer Reading Program by hosting some of the participants at the Peoria Riverfront Museum for the grand opening of The Science of Ripley's "Believe it or Not!" exhibit.
"It's critical for students to continue learning during their summer vacation," Schock said. "Fortunately, in Central Illinois, we have a variety of educational opportunities. For the past nine years, I've hosted a Summer Reading Program that challenges students to continue reading over their break. It's been a pleasure over the years to help thousands of students discover a passion for reading.
"The Peoria Riverfront Museum is another wonderful educational resource. Whether it's the Planetarium, rotating exhibits, or the Illinois River Encounter, there's something here for everyone. This summer I'm encouraging families to investigate some of the exciting opportunities that exist in the Peoria area to engage the imaginations of their children."
Peoria is one of only three stops nationwide for the exclusive The Science of Ripley's "Believe it or Not!" collection. Providing a fascinating explanation of the science behind strange phenomena, it includes touchable specimens, interactive experiments, and much more. This exciting exhibit will be available from May 24 through September 8, and those interested in attending can call the Peoria Riverfront Museum at (309) 686-7000 to learn more.
Since his election as a state representative in 2005, Rep. Schock's Summer Reading Program has encouraged students across Central Illinois to continue reading during their break. Parents of students grades K through 8 interested in participating can contact Rep. Schock's district office at 309.671.7027 or visit www.schock.house.gov/readingprogram for more information.
