In 2013, LG Uplus selected Huawei as its wireless network supplier to help build its LTE/LTE-A networks because of its rich experience in deployment and its market leadership in LTE networks worldwide. As the leading mobile operator in South Korea, LG Uplus needed to continue providing innovative technology to satisfy the growing data traffic demands of its mobile broadband (MBB) subscribers in the country by enhancing its competitiveness and range of capabilities in the MBB market.
To address this, Huawei provided its industry leading SingleRAN LTE solutions, including macro sites, carrier aggregation and LTE voice (VoLTE) and more after analysing the LG Uplus network. In addition, LG Uplus and Huawei jointly deployed the HetNet network, and widely deployed Huawei's small cell solution, AtomCell, to further enhance network performance.
Carrier aggregation is a key technology in LTE-A, which combines two or more basic bands for higher throughput. Huawei's AtomCell solution provides better capacity and coverage for a smooth MBB experience indoors, as well as in locations on the cell edge or those suffering from weak coverage. With Huawei's support, LG Uplus achieved full coverage of South Korea over a nine month period, experiencing rapid growing market share and new subscriber adoption, with both their existing and new mobile subscribers enjoying an overall faster and more reliable MBB experience.
At MWC 2014, LG Uplus and Huawei jointly demonstrated the world's first 3CC CA (3 band Carrier Aggregation) solution. With carrier aggregation technology, this solution aggregates three bands to efficiently deliver ultra-fast data speeds, strengthen overall network capacity and provide a more seamless user experience.
The GTB award for 'Wireless Network Infrastructure Innovation' is evidence of the industry's recognition of Huawei for its continuous technology innovation, focus on addressing operators' challenges, and its efforts in driving LTE-A commercialization globally.
As of 2014 Q1, Huawei has signed more than 290 commercial LTE contracts, deployed 126 commercial LTE networks and 113 commercial EPC networks.
