Dallas ISD Earns Top Award from Government Finance Officers Association

May 22, 2014

DALLAS, May 22 -- The Dallas Independent School District issued the following news:

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR) to the Dallas ISD Accounting Services Department.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Recipients of the award represent a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The CAFR awarded Dallas ISD based on a comprehensive annual financial report prepared for the fiscal year, which ended June 30, 2013. The GFOA established the certificate program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports. Additionally, it reveals the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then recognizes individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.

Reports submitted to the CAFR program are reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and the GFOA Special Review Committee, comprised of individuals with expertise in public-sector financial reporting and includes financial statement preparers, independent auditors, academics, and other finance professionals.
