BRIEF: Point Park's 'Umbrella Man' debuts at Pittsburgh Independent Film fest

May 23, 2014

By Michael Machosky, The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

May 23--Point Park University isn't just a small (but fast-growing) university in Downtown Pittsburgh. It's also a movie producer.

"The Umbrella Man" will be screened at 1:45 p.m.June 22, at the Father Ryan Arts Center in McKees Rocks, as part of the Pittsburgh Independent Film Festival.

It's not that strange a concept -- Point Park trains a lot of actors and entertainment industry professionals. The low-budget feature gave many students the opportunity to get hands-on experience working on a real movie.

It's the story of a father who becomes obsessed with the Kennedy assassination, after the death of his own 8-year-old son, and it's set in Pittsburgh.

It adapted from a play, staged by the REP, Point Park University's professional theater company, in 2011 at the Pittsburgh Playhouse.
