Keffi Micro Finance Wins CBN's Agric Award

Keffi Local Government Area branch of the Micro Finance Bank has emerged winner of the coveted 2013 Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) award on agriculture financing in Nasarawa State.

The Chairman of Nasarawa branch of the Nigeria bankers' committee, Alhaji U.S Sule, said Micro Finance Bank emerged first after defeating Union Bank Plc to a second place.

He said the award was given in recognition of banks contribution to the development of agriculture through the farmers' cooperative loan schemes and assistance to other small scale business in the state.

"Last year, the Micro Finance Bank also emerged winner for the 2012 award," he said.

Managing Director of the Micro Finance Bank, Alhaji Rajab Baba Haske, expressed his gratitude to the CBN for the award, assuring that the bank would do more to develop agriculture, and "small scale businesses, particularly for rural dwellers." However, he said: "I want to call on government to do more by way of assisting rural farmers through the structures of micro banks."
