Contract Awarded for providing an HX broadband satellite system and terminals to power delivery of high-speed satellite Internet service

Hughes Network Systems, the global player in broadband satellite solutions and services, has been selected by HISPASAT Colombia, a subsidiary of Spanish satellite operator HISPASAT, to bridge digital divide in rural Colombia.

Officials with Hughes said a contract has been awarded by that HISPASAT Colombia for an HX broadband satellite system and terminals to power delivery of high-speed satellite Internet service as part of Colombia%s Ministry of Information Technology and Communication%s (MinTIC) Vive Digital program.

The program aims to bridge the digital divide in seven underserved regions of the country.

Company officials said that the HX System is designed and optimized for carrier-grade IP broadband networking and specialized applications such as on-the-move communications and mesh networking. The system is a broadband satellite system with an economical gateway earth station and high-performance remote terminals that scales from hundreds of terminals to thousands.
