May 21--CEDAR FALLS -- Hawkeye Community College is seeking bids for parking lot and road improvements.
The Board of Trustees Friday approved publishing a notice on the estimated $515,000 project during a special meeting at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. The meeting was held on the University of Northern Iowa campus because it was prior to Hawkeye's spring commencement ceremonies there.
The approval allows for a bid opening before the board's regular May 27 meeting, where a public hearing will be held and a contract is expected to be awarded.
Under the proposal, a section of the parking lot just north of Grundy Hall would be reconstructed, an area totaling 2,650 square yards. A stretch of Campus View Drive on the north end of the campus would also be reconstructed, as would islands in another parking lot west of Fayette Hall.
The estimated cost of the project includes both construction costs and engineering fees. It will be funded with the facilities maintenance levy. Construction is expected to take place this summer.
