May 20, 2014

Toshiba Corp. will supply Google Inc. with a semiconductor for a smartphone scheduled to be launched in 2015 by the U.S. technology giant, Toshiba sources said Tuesday.

The Japanese electrical machinery manufacturer plans to start mass producing the key component, a system chip to control other parts, possibly in early 2015 at its plant in Oita Prefecture, southern Japan, the sources said.

With the smartphone planned by Google, consumers will be able to attach equipment including a camera and battery depending on their preferences, according to Toshiba.
