Econet Telecom Lesotho loses $300 00 to vandalism

May 20, 2014

Telecommunications service provider Econet Telecom Lesotho has spent well over $300 000 in the past three months to repair vandalised equipment, APA can report Tuesday. The company was recently hit by a spate of vandalism of its equipment which has negatively affected the quality of its voice and data services, especially on fixed line networks offered to customers.

According to Econet's general manager of customer services and stakeholder relations Mrs. Mpine Tente, vandalism of their equipment has left many of their business clients struggling to meet their regular revenue levels. She said the acts have also led to Econet losing revenue due to the temporary unavailability of services while repairs are being conducted.

While vandalism is normally associated with acts of stealing the equipment by members of the public, Mrs. Mpine said their major source of vandalism has been contractors.

€œSome contractors engaged in roads, water and power infrastructure projects have a hand in disrupting our services because they use heavy machinery when doing the earthworks€ , she added.
