Next Steps for EMV and Mobile Payments Charted at CARTES SECURE CONNEXIONS AMERICA 2014

May 19, 2014

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The third annual CARTES SECURE CONNEXIONS AMERICA finished its three-day run here in Las Vegas with more than 2,000 attendees from the secure payment, identification and mobile technologies industries discussing the critical issues driving these markets. With an expanded exhibition hall to accommodate the 166 exhibitors (a more than 20 percent increase over last year), this year’s CARTES SECURE CONNEXIONS AMERICA hosted more than 80 educational sessions during 6 conference tracks and 5 keynote sessions.

Keynote sessions featured speakers from the e-payment, smart card and digital retailing industries including: Patty Walters from Vantiv outlining strategies to meet next year’s EMV compliance; Patrick Gauthier of PayPal sharing a vision of an omni-channel payment infrastructure; Dominique Piotet from Rebellion Lab explaining a digital 360 degree consumer retail engagement model; Ben Milner of Dwolla detailing his company’s internet-based consumer-to-retailer payment strategy; and Steven Singer of ABnote talking about how HCE will drive EMV adoption and mobile contactless payment.

Another highlight of this year’s conference was Tuesday night’s American SESAMES Awards recognizing technology innovation for smart cards, digital security, identification, secure transactions and contactless technology developed for the U.S. market. This year’s winners included Oberthur Technologies, SkimProt, and Zwipe AS for e-payment and access control security.

This year’s expanded exhibition hall also included a new “Emerging Payments and Financial Services Pavilion” with 17 participants showcasing new point-of-sale and mobile payment advances. In addition, a dozen French companies participated in the “French Pavilion” sponsored by Ubifrance.

The event attracted an international following with more than 50 countries represented, with the United States of America, Canada and Mexico leading the attendance. More than 47 percent of C-level executives attending were from the banking, finance and smart card industries.

“This year again we’ve seen a great dialogue about where the secure payment and identification market is going; both the converging and diverging views about the technology and market paths we should adopt,” said Isabelle Alfano, event director. “CARTES SECURE CONNEXIONS AMERICA is all about sharing game-changing thinking and technologies shaping secure payment, access and identification markets.”

Next year’s CARTES SECURE CONNEXIONS AMERICA will again be hosted in Las Vegas from April 28-30, 2015.
