Justin Timberlake wins 7 Billboard Music Awards

Los Angeles, May 19 (EFE).- Justin Timberlake was crowned king of the Billboard gala with seven awards, including Top Artist, at an event that glittered with the performances of Ricky Martin and where Jennifer Lopez received the Icon Award honoring her lifelong career.

Timberlake also took the trophies for Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Album and Top Billboard 200 Album, the latter two for his disc "The 20/20 Experience."

In his speech expressing gratitude for the Top Artist statuette, Timberlake said "I want to thank everyone on earth, except Donald Sterling," referring to the owner the NBA team the Los Angeles Clippers whose racist remarks sparked controversy across American society.

Timberlake is co-owner of the NBA'sMemphis Grizzlies franchise.

The local band Imagine Dragons won five prizes, while Robin Thicke featuring T.I. & Pharrell took four.

New Zealander Lorde, 17, took home the award for Top New Artist, while Katy Perry got the nod for Top Female Artist.

Justin Bieber, meanwhile, was named Top Social Artist and Eminem got the Top Rap Artist win.

Imagine Dragons was honored as Top Hot 100 Artist, Marc Anthony was Top Latin Artist and Daft Punk reigned in the category of Top Dance/Electronic Artist.

Anthony also scored with "3.0" and "Vivir Mi Vida" in the categories of Top Latin Album and Top Latin Song, respectively. EFE
