Q1-end Commercial Banks Outstanding NPL to 22-quarter High

BEIJING, May 16, SinoCast -- Outstanding non-performing loans of commercial banks hit CNY 646.1 billion as of the end of the first quarter of 2014, a 22-quarter high since the fourth quarter of 2008, according to China Banking Regulatory Commission.

Newly-added non-performing loans hit CNY 54.1 billion in the first quarter of this year, and the NPL ratio 1.04%, up 0.04 percentage points over the beginning of this year and a new high since the fourth quarter of 2011.

As of the end of the first quarter of this year, outstanding normal loans of commercial banks hit CNY 59.9671 trillion, accounting for 96.46% of the total; outstanding special-mentioned loans hit CNY 1.5553 trillion, accounting for 2.50% of the total.
