Beer, grub and rock 'n roll: Copper Blues debuts at CityPlace

May 17--The new hot spot at CityPlace debuted last weekend with a name longer than July. The Copper Blues Rock Pub & Kitchen, next to the Palm Beach Improv, aims to do it all: It's a beer joint, a gastro pub and a live music venue.

Craft beer fans will appreciate the decent-sized brew offerings -- more than 60 beers on tap (including one-buck beer shots at happy hour) that range from the local (like Due South and Funky Buddha selections) to the regional (like Wynwood and Cigar City picks) to the national (New Belgium brews, Brooklyn Lager, Lagunitas, Dale's Pale Ale and other favorites). Putting a fine point on the beer angle, Copper Blues offers an outdoor beer garden that's appointed with lush greenery and an herb garden.

That garden grows some of the herbs used in the eatery's pub-style dishes. Menu offerings include salads, pizza, bites such as warm pretzel sticks with white cheddar beer sauce ($9, $6 at happy hour), mahi tostadas ($15, $10 at happy hour), beer-braised chicken drums ($11, $7 at happy hour), sandwiches like the braised beef short rib ($5), the Copper Burger (Angus beef, thick bacon, white cheddar, caramelized onions and Copper sauce on a brioche bun, $13), and the Floridian "Drunk Pork" (stuff with Funky Buddha beer-braised pork, $10).

All this happens in an indoor setting that blends steel touches, antique lighting, brick and farm-inspired details and copper pipes that carry beer to the bar.

As for the live music, rock n' roll acts play 7:30 p.m. to midnight Wednesday through Saturday.
