Third Thursday offers more than an art walk

May 14--TAHLEQUAH -- The third Third Thursday of the season will be this week with over 21 downtown businesses staying open until at least 8 p.m.

This event is planned by the Tahlequah Main Street Association and aims to promote local artists, musicians, businesses, and raise community involvement.

Throughout downtown, mainly along Muskogee Avenue from Choctaw to Goingsnake Streets, artists and musicians will be set up in shops and on the sidewalks. Photography, painting, jewelry, caricatures, and various other forms of art will be on display and available for purchase. Heritage Elementary School will have a student art project themed "What Downtown Means to Me" on display in various locations. The Tahlequah Artist Association art show will be hung in the Spider Gallery.

For those who prefer music to visual art, Bob Taylor will play handpans in the Vivid Salon courtyard, Mike Allen will play Irish folk music on the harp in the Chapel Books courtyard, Amber Watson will sing by Obsession Boutique, and Hayley Wiley will be performing southern gospel and hymns at the foot of The Grill staircase.

Activities are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with a giant chess set put out in Norris Park and a chess tournament in Drip. Stickball demonstrations will begin at 5:30 on the north lawn of the Cherokee Capitol square. At 6 there will be a Crossfit demonstration in Norris Park, followed at 7 by ballet and Irish dance performed by students from the Academy of Performing Arts.

Also at 7 will begin the Songwriters Showcase at Dream Theatre. Later in the night, Club Effx will have "Ladies Night" for those 18 years and over.

Numerous shops will be offering refreshments including wine, beer, and margarita tasting. Many stores and restaurants will have sales, specials, and prize drawings.
