Refined CAREC Transport and Trade Facilitation Strategy includes 108 investment projects

The refined Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Transport and Trade Facilitation Strategy includes 48 new technical assistance projects for $74 billion, Asian Development Bank Senior Transport Specialist David Hill said at the 13th CAREC Transport Sector Coordinating Committee (TSCC) Meeting.

Additional comments were offered at the previous TSCC Meeting in June 2013 in Kazakhstan, he said.

Despite many changes were incorporated, the Strategy does not differ significantly from initial goals, but considers issues in more details.

CAREC Transport and Trade Facilitation Strategy was reconsidered and then endorsed at 12th Ministerial Conference on Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation in October 2013 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The refined strategy includes 108 investment projects, with a total estimated cost of $38.8 billion, and 48 technical assistance projects, with an estimated total cost of $74.6 million.

Of the 108 investment projects, 76 are new projects with an estimated cost of $21.4 billion. These complement the 32 ongoing projects with an estimated cost of $17.4 billion.
