BRIEF: The Glenn Miller Orchestra to play the Carolina Civic Center May 30

May 14--The big band sound is coming to Lumberton.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra is scheduled to play at the Carolina Civic CenterMay 30 at 7 p.m.

The 18-member orchestra has been performing since 1956. It recreates the sound made famous by legendary bandleader Miller, who scored hits including "Tuxedo Junction" and "That Old Black Magic" before dying in a plane crash in 1944.

The orchestra is now under the leadership of Nick Hilscher, who is also one of the band's singers.

Tickets are $20; $15 with the advance purchase of 10 or more. They are available at the theater's web site,, or by calling 910-738-4339, extension 106.

The civic center is at 315 N. Chestnut St.
