Tokyo stocks surge in morning on Dow's rise to record, yen's fall

Tokyo stocks surged Tuesday morning following the Dow's overnight rise to another record high and the dollar's advance to the 102 yen range.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average went up 235.09 points, or 1.66 percent, from Monday to 14,384.61. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 16.86 points, or 1.46 percent, to 1,174.77.

A wide range of shares attracted buying, with real estate, nonferrous metal and mining shares leading the way.
