Henline to Offer Remarks at Baccalaureate

ELKINS, W.Va., May 12 -- Davis & Elkins College issued the following news release:

Heather Goodwin Henline, publisher and general manager of The Inter-Mountain, will deliver the Davis & Elkins College Baccalaureate Service address at 7 p.m. Friday, May 16 in The McDonnell Center. Graduating seniors will lead the service of praise and worship celebrating the accomplishments of the class of 2014 and the service will include the presentation of academic hoods.

The Davis & Elkins College Concert Choir, under the direction of Liz Marshall-MacVean and accompanied by Donna Baroudi Huffman, will lead special music for the ceremony. The Baccalaureate Service is open to the public and no tickets are necessary for admission.

A West Virginia native, Goodwin Henline has been at the helm of publishing operations at The Inter-Mountain for more than three years. Under her leadership, The Inter-Mountain has garnered more than 100 awards for journalism excellence through the West Virginia Press Association Better Newspaper Contest. These have included several individual, first-place wins for Goodwin Henline, including Best Headline News Writing, among others.

A 17-year veteran as a professional journalist, Goodwin Henline's experience in the media industry dates back nearly 25 years, when she joined her student newspaper in junior high school. A love of writing and a quest to positively impact the community led Goodwin Henline to pursue journalism in high school, where she was editor of The Journal, and resulted in her attending the University of South Carolina on a dean's scholarship to study print media with a concentration in newsroom management.

During her career with Ogden Newspapers, she has served as a circulation executive, telemarketing director, reporter, bureau chief, city editor, managing editor and executive editor prior to her current position as leader of operations at The Inter-Mountain.

Throughout her career, Goodwin Henline has been recognized for her work, collectively and individually, receiving hundreds of accolades for journalistic excellence in West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. She also has been nationally recognized by the American Cancer Society and other organizations for coverage of key issues.

Goodwin Henline serves on multiple committees for the West Virginia Press Association; the Randolph County Chamber of Commerce, on which she serves on the board of directors; and Rotary, among other professional, civic and personal affiliations. She resides in Randolph County with her husband, sons and their pets. She takes pride in her family's journey as a foster/adoptive family, something she considers a spiritual calling that is rooted in her deep Christian faith.

A Baccalaureate Reception will immediately follow the service on The McDonnell Center porch.

The Davis & Elkins College Baccalaureate Service is open to the public and part of the College's 105th Commencement Weekend activities, May 16 and 17. Other events include the Nurses' Pinning Ceremony on May 16 at 4 p.m., and the official Commencement Ceremonies on May 17 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow on the outdoor plaza.
