Pinoy rock singer conquers Doha stage

May 11, 2014

Filipino singer and songwriter Bamboo Manalac, simply known as Bamboo, brought his Doha fans down memory lane through the songs he performed at the West End Park, recently.

The jampacked concert of one of the sought-after performers in the Philippines featured most of his greatest hits since he started his singing career up to the present.

The fans sung along as their idol performed '214', a song about youth empowerment 'Awit ng Kabataan', Bamboo's trademark song on being a proud Filipino 'Hoy Pinoy', among others.

"It was a very successful show as evident in the number of attendees. Bamboo even said the crowd here is bigger than during his concert in Dubai which he was not expecting at all. Throughout the concert we did not receive even a single complaint. It turned out as a perfect community event. Because of the success of the concert, so many people have been requesting us to bring more artists. Others are even eager to work with us in organizing such events," said Concon Ponce, Director of Marketing and Events at Events and Beyond, the concert's organizer.

Bamboo's hits include Hallelujah, Noypi, Tatsulok and a lot more. He is one of the judge-coaches of the reality television singing competition 'The Voice of the Philippines'.

Aside from him, other featured performers on the occasion included television personality Janella Jamer and Doha-based talents Asiano, Overtone, Extreme, Dimp Crew, Trece Familia, and Vhandana.

"Janelle Jamer was loved by the audience because of her funny antics, and of course her singing prowess. She even went down the stage and joined the crowd at the far-end," Ponce added.

A fashion show featuring the creations of Celso Collado also complemented the musical evening.

"Compared to the previous concert staged in Doha this event is far more organized. All were in order from the entrance, stage arrangement and until the exit area. Even the parking situation is commendable. The show started on time which the crowd truly appreciated. While there were still some room for improvements in the way the show was brought together but overalls Events and Beyond did a great job," said Agnes of Al Farcsn group.

Another spectator said it was a perfect concert experience for a first-timer like him.

Prior to the concert, a number of fans had an opportunity to meet Bamboo up close and get his autograph during a Meet and Greet event.

The concert was sponsored by Al Khulafa Trading, Holiday Villa Doha and LBC.
