Slight rise in natural gas prices for May

May 1, 2014

The Akron Beacon Journal

May 01--The monthly natural gas price for residential customers who have chosen Dominion's Standard Choice Offer (SCO), or those who don't choose their own supplier, will go up slightly effective May 13.

Additionally, the fixed monthly charge all customers pay for items such as meter reading and replacement of pipelines will increase from $22.01 to $23.58.

The additional $1.57 reflects an increase approved last week by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio for Dominion to recover more money for its pipeline replacement project and converting customers to its automated meter reading devices.

Beginning May 13, the Standard Choice Offer (SCO) rate -- and the identical Standard Service Offer (SSO) -- will be $5.22 per thousand cubic feet (mcf).

That's up 21 cents, or 4.2 percent, compared with the April rate of $5.01/mcf.

The new rates are 47 cents, or 9.8 percent, higher than the price a year ago of $4.75.

The increase reflects higher national market prices as a result of colder-than-normal winter weather, compared with a year ago.

Under the new filing, the average SCO/SSO residential customer's bill for the month of May 2014 would be $49.42. That's up $1.44, or 3 percent, from $47.98 in May 2013.

Residential customers pay the same usage-based charges to deliver gas to a residence and the $23.58 monthly service fee whether they choose a supplier or stay with Dominion.
