Leon County Unveils New Destination Website

April 30, 2014

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., April 30 -- Leon County issued the following news release:

With nearly half of all travelers planning trips on a smart phone and a similar number using social media while on vacation, Leon County Tourism Development (Visit Tallahassee) recently unveiled their redesigned website,, which now offers a responsive setup for a seamless experience for desktop, smartphones, tablets and social media sharing.

According to Expedia Media Solutions and ComScore's summer 2013 study, 52 percent of the Internet population accesses travel content on a mobile device. Total mobile travel minutes have also increased by 45 percent year after year while personal computer travel minutes have only increased by two percent. Based on these and other consumer trends showing the increased importance of smart phone use in vacation planning and that 85 percent of U.S. travelers rely on a smart phone while traveling, Visit Tallahassee completely redesigned its website and added more content and services.

"When updating the website, it was an obvious next step to adapt to today's mobile device standards," said Lee Daniel, Executive Director of Leon County Tourism Development. "The new responsive design makes the user experience easier on various social networks."

Additionally, the website's design and the content took into consideration that 30 percent of site traffic comes from Tallahassee residents. To further accommodate local users, the website now also features a unified events calendar shared with, a service of the Council on Culture & Arts (COCA) supporting the area's diverse range of cultural events and offerings.

"Integrating COCA's calendar with Visit Tallahassee provides greater exposure for arts and cultural activities and events, and provides vacationers greater insight into all the community offers," said Amanda Karioth Thompson, Interim Executive Director of COCA.
