Ecobank, one of the leading commercial banking institutions in Liberia, has been presented two glittering trophies they won last weekend for emerging as champions of a day-long tournament organized by The NEWS newspaper. The football and Kickball games formed part of festivities commemorating the 25th anniversary of The NEWS newspaper which hit the newsstand in Liberia in 1989.
Presenting both football and kickball trophies to Ecobank over the weekend during the official indoor silver jubilee program held at the Monrovia City Hall, The NEWS newspaper's Administrative & Business Manager Prince S. Parker commended all participating institutions for identifying with the paper during the weeklong celebration.
Parker particularly was full of praise for the business entities Novafone and Ecobank, describing their partnership with The NEWS as remarkable. Plunging the audience into laughter, Mr. Parker taunted that Ecobank's scooping of all trophies was a giveaway from the paper's management and staff on the occasion of their anniversary celebration.
"We gave away these two trophies to Ecobank. The both finals, we played against Ecobank and you all know it is our anniversary and we put up the trophies so we allowed Ecobank to win." Prince intimated. The other two competitors in the one day sporting events organized by this paper were FARBRIC Radio and Novafone. Ecobank's President/CEO Kola Adeleke was on hand to receive the trophies won by his entity. Though Novafone did not win anything, their boss Bechir Khoury was among dignitaries that graced the 25th anniversary dinner of The NEWS newspaper. The NEWS classically defeated FARBRIC Radio to cruise through to the grand finale and in Prince's words, the celebrant played feebly against their guests to easily deliver the football trophy to them.
