Hong Kong : KC Chan bolsters Canadian ties

Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Prof KC Chan visited Ottawa and Toronto today, to strengthen ties between Hong Kong and Canada.

In Ottawa, he met with Canada s Finance Minister Joe Oliver, and the Bank of Canada s Senior Deputy Governor Tiff Macklem and advisor and future Senior Deputy Governor Carolyn Wilkins.

Prof Chan updated them on Hong Kong's financial developments, and the city s role as China's global financial market and offshore renminbi business centre.

He also paid a courtesy call on China s Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary to Canada Zhang Junsai.

Prof Chan also met with local community leaders in Toronto who originated from Hong Kong.

Tomorrow, he will meet with representatives from Ontario s Financial Services Commission, students at the University of Toronto s Rotman School of Management, and attend a luncheon with financial sector leaders.

Prof Chan will also speak at the first ever Hong Kong-Canada Business Achievement Award gala. The award aims to showcase success stories of Canadian businesses which have ventured into Hong Kong.
