BRIEF: Sauk Rapids names ex-mayor its Citizen of the Year

April 29--SAUK RAPIDS -- Former Sauk Rapids Mayor Mark Campbell was recognized Monday as the city's Citizen of the Year.

About 75 people turned out to recognize Campbell for his contributions to the community. As well as serving as mayor for six years, Campbell has served on the city Planning Commission and the Sauk Rapids-Rice School District board.

Under Campbell's leadership, the city underwent a $58 million bridge and downtown improvement project. He also led the city during the design phase and initial construction of the government center.

Since stepping down as mayor, Campbell has remained active in the community. He serves on the city's half-cent sales tax committee and volunteers for the Sauk Rapids Fire Department and its Relief Association.

He is also an advocate for many athletic and school groups.
