United States : IDENTIV secures $20M loan to expand

April 28, 2014

In a bid to expand, global security technology firm Identiv has received a $20 million loan to retire debt and generate liquidity of funds for its anticipated fast delivery of what the company calls "trust for everyday items," in the form of EPC Gen 2 ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) and high-frequency (HF) Near Field Communication (NFC) RFID technology production.

Identiv has embarked upon a new marketing campaign called "Trust Your World" (the company asserts that trust is basic to identity), which features its Identiv Trust Services (ITS) platform of solutions, including passive UHF and HF RFID tags to be used in personnel, consumer and asset identity-management systems across a vast range of industries, like retail, logistics and health care.

A two-year-old firm that is marketing an NFC-based solution to manage information related to chronic disease management, HealthID Inc., is one user of Identiv's NFC tags.

The system is comprised of a wristband or ID card with a built-in Identiv NFC tag encoded with an innovative ID number that is connected to a user's health information in HealthID's software, residing on the firm's server.

In order to access the individual's health history, emergency responders and other health-care providers are able to read that tag ID through an NFC-enabled phone.
