BRIEF: York-area school casts gather for final performances

April 28, 2014

By Sean Adkins, York Daily Record, Pa.

April 28--Roughly 45 minutes before he took the stage, Evan Brooks strolled the hallways of Central York High School, gently tipping his burgundy top hat to those he passed.

The calming walk helps the senior at Spring Grove Area High School become more familiar with his character, in this case, Willy Wonka.

"I'm able to pull myself away from my regular life," said Brooks, 19. "I think Willy Wonka is very extreme. There's no gray area. I'm the same way. I either love something or I don't."

Brooks was one of hundreds of area high school students who elicited thunderous applause for their performances Sunday evening from an audience treated to Encore, staged inside Central York's Performing Arts auditorium.

Encore is a celebration of musical theater presented annually to recognize the talent, work and accomplishments in each local high school
