Number of credit card holders increases by 66% in Turkmenistan

Number of credit card users in Turkmenistan increased by 66% as of April 1, 2014. In addition, number of terminal increased by 23% and ATMs 77%, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Annamuhammed Gochyev said at an enlarged meeting of the cabinet, TDH reported.

The participants of the meeting also heard an information about the work done to expand the range of cashless payments using Altyn asyr cards. Along with this, according to the license agreement between the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan and U.S. MasterCard, comprehensive measures for active implementation of MasterCard international payment system were taken, Gochyev noted.

Currently, design of sample cards of MasterCard international payment system, which will be used in Turkmenistan, are under the development. Number of MasterCard's formats such as MasterCard Maestro, MasterCard Standart, MasterCard Gold, MasterCard Business will be presented to users.

The sample cards were also presented to the President of Turkmenistan. He noted that a widespread adoption of innovative technologies in the activities of banking institutions in the country has a significant impact on the effectiveness of monetary policy, as well as implementation of national and international payments and cash flow management as a whole.

Banks should continually expand and update the range of financial services in order to attract customers, according to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The president also stressed a need to control activities of all organizations and departments of financial and economic sector.
