April 24--Folk icon, activist and "Puff the Magic Dragon"-co-penner Peter Yarrow will perform a concert Friday at Sacred Heart Music Center.
Yarrow teamed with Paul Stookey and Mary Travers in the 1960s and was part of a Greenwich Village folk revival in the early 1960s. Peter, Paul and Mary's most popular song was the one about the magic dragon. They also performed all sorts of stuff that you heard spinning on your parents' record player: "If I had a Hammer," "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and various Bob Dylan covers. The trio was at the front of the Civil Rights movement.
These days Yarrow is involved with Operation Respect, which combines music and video and seeks to end bullying.
