VW to Offer Special Edition Olympics Truck

Feb. 07--Last year, Volkswagen began promoting its role as the official vehicle partner of the 2014 Winter Olympics with a Polar Expedition Amarok off-road truck used to shuttle nine passengers across vast expanses of the icy Russian tundra. Now the German automaker is offering a consumer version called the Amarok Sochi Special Edition. For now, sales plans include only Russia.

Most Americans worry about riding in driverless cars: Eighty-eight percent of U.S. adults said they would worry about riding in a driverless car, according to a Harris Poll released Monday. Seventy-nine percent worried about equipment failure in a driverless car, including a glitch in braking software or warning sensor failures. More than half worried about who would be held responsible if a driverless car was involved in an accident.

Toyota, Ford lead Consumer Reports poll: Toyota claimed the top spot in Consumer Reports' annual Car-Brand Perception Survey released Wednesday. The survey reflects customers' brand perceptions based on quality, safety, performance, value, fuel economy, design and technology. Ford, Honda, Chevrolet and Tesla rounded out the top five brands in terms of positive brand perception.

Kia shows Niro hybrid concept: The Niro concept from Kia made its North American debut at the Chicago Auto Show Thursday. An urban lifestyle vehicle that hints at a possible new small car from the Korean auto maker, the Niro is designed for city use and fuses rally-car style with a hybrid-electric power train and four-wheel drive.
